Urban Resources Initiative

The Urban Resources Initiative (URI) program was founded by (now emeritus) Professor William Burch in 1989 to provide Yale students field experience in social forestry to complement theory taught in the classroom. New Haven URI was established in 1991 to provide voice to a board of directors comprised of community members and to serve as a local partner to URI at Yale. This non-profit university partnership provides clinical learning experience for Yale students and fosters community-based land stewardship.
