Chromatic Drift: A Cool Mural Unveiling

Join us as we celebrate the completion of New Haven’s third cooling mural, located on the basketball court at Kimberly Field. Created with highly reflective paint, the mural will help reduce surface temperatures, making the court a cooler, safer, and more welcoming place for students, families, and neighbors to gather and play.

Located adjacent to Betsy Ross Arts & Design Academy (BRADA), the mural was designed by Haejin Park, a 2025 graduate of the Yale School of Art. Over the past year, Haejin has led a community engagement process with BRADA’s rising ninth graders, empowering them to make the court their canvas through symbolism and vibrant color. As BRADA’s first high school class, these students have left their mark on both the mural and their school community.

Over the past two weeks, the court has been transformed with the help of students, volunteers, and community members. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed their time and energy to make this project possible.

The celebration will feature remarks from BRADA leadership, as well as representatives from the New Haven Parks Department, the Department of Arts, Culture and Tourism, and the Yale School of Art. This project is a testament to the power of partnership, and we look forward to recognizing everyone who helped bring it to life.
