Aesculus hippocastanum

Horsechestnut and the Buckeyes (i.e. the several North American species of Aesculus) are our only trees with opposite, palmately compound leaves. The large dark brown nuts are poisonous and should not be mistaken for those of the true chestnut (genus Castanea). The species is native to southeastern Europe.
